Fairfield
Fairfield is located on the original site of the Fairfield Farm Estate owned by Sir James Douglas and on land originally bought by the first female landowner in BC, Isabel Ross. Most of the neighbourhood was developed in the early 1900's in a housing boom that lasted till 1913; much of this original character remains intact.
Fairfield is home to Cook Street Village, a stretch of commercial activity in the 300-500 blocks of Cook Street. The Village is home to the Beagle Pub, Prima Strada Pizzeria, Cafe Fantastico, Lifestyles Market, various professional services and other retailers and encompasses the site of a new residential condominium and townhouse development, the Essencia Verde.
Fairfield also is home to Abkhazi Garden, located at 1964 Fairfield Road. Created by Peggy Pemberton Carter and her husband, exiled Russian Prince Nicholas Abkhazi. Purchased in 2000 by The Land Conservancy to save it from becoming a townhouse development, the garden is a mature demonstration of native plants flourishing in the natural character of the landscape.
