Oak Bay
Oak Bay's first European settler was John Tod, an HBC chief fur trader who built Western Canada's oldest house in Oak Bay at 2564 Heron Street in 1851. Oak Bay was incorporated in 1906 and included renowned architect Francis Rattenbury as one of its first councillors. Rattenbury's home is located at Beach Drive and is now the junior boys campus of Glenlyon Norfolk School.
Renowned for its British heritage, Oak Bay is home to many tea rooms and has been described as "more English thank England itself". There are a few different neighbourhoods within the municipality; North Oak Bay, South Oak Bay, Henderson, Estevan and The Uplands, an exclusive neighbourhood with some of the most expensive waterfront properties in Canada.
Oak Bay High School, located on Cranmore Road is the largest high school on Vancouver Island and has dominated Track and Field and Cross Country in BC in recent years.
The largest commercial hub is located on several blocks of Oak Bay Avenue and offers many banks, restaurants and retailers.
