View Royal

View RoyalView Royal is a growing community of approximately 8,000 people.  The area was first settled in the 1850's by Dr. John Helmcken and a bronze plaque at the foot of Helmcken Road marks the spot where crews from ships in transit replenished their water supply from a natural spring.  View Royal is home to the Six Mile Pub, which is said to be the oldest pub in BC at 135 years.

View Royal is the most eastern municipality of the Western Communities, or West Shore, which reaches from Esquimalt Harbour to Rock Point in Metchosin.  One of the most picturesque parts of View Royal is Portage Inlet, where waterfront homes line the rocky shore of a fjord popular with kayakers and canoeists.

View Royal is also home to one of the most popular summer spots in the Capital Region, Thetis Lake.  Comprised of upper and lower lakes and characterized by many bays and islets, Thetis is frequented by swimmers, fishers and kayakers/canoeists.
