Langford
A growing community of just over 20,000 people, Langford is the most populated municipality of the Western Communities and was incorporated as a City in 1992. Like Colwood, it was also the site of one of the four farms set up to feed the growing Fort Victoria. Its name comes from the Captain whom established the farm, Edward Langford.
In recent years Langford has experienced immense growth and its mayor and council have made a concerted effort to attract business and development and make civic improvements. One of the biggest developments in the West Shore is Bear Mountain, a master planned community featuring a resort and two golf courses designed by Jack Nicklaus.
More development is planned for the area in the form of South Skirt Mountain Village, a comprehensive mixed use development. The 2,800 unit project will include condominums, townhouses and single family homes built out over the next 15 years.
Langford also offers stunning natural beauty such as that found in Goldstream Provincial Park. Each year, the annual salmon run can be viewed from the bridges and trails around the river. The Park also features an old growth rain forest with Western Red Cedars, some as old as 600 years!
